It is a freestanding structure to separate movement.

Fences can be built in different height according to different usage. The higher the fence is, the more degree of privacy will be provided. The material used for fences would also affect its function. For example, a low timber fences can be found in the playground to separate the soccer court and the public walk path and sometimes become a sitting area while a high concrete fence can be found around the private house.
Apart from separating movement, it can also be used for protection. The Great Wall in China was also a fence to against the attack of enemy.
